Delores "Dee" Mae Hayen, 84, of Sterling passed away July 1, 2017 surrounded by family and her dearest friend after a lengthy illness.
Delores was born April 4, 1933, the daughter of Dale and Margaret (Near) Exner. She was raised and attended schools in Walnut and Rock Falls, IL. After she graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1951, she married the love of her life Herbert Hayen on June 21, 1951 at Ft Bliss Army Base in El Paso, TX.
Delores is survived by her husband, Herbert, her five children, Dale (Barb) Hayen, of Sterling; Marjorie (Nick) Fiorini, of Lakewood, Co; Karen (Steve Aurand) Fisher, of Sterling; Ronald (Sarah Gibbons) Hayen, of Wayne, PA; and Jon (Sandy Webb) Hayen, of Bloomington, IL; ten grandchildren, Amy (Derrick) Miller, of Davenport, IA; Kyle (Cassie) Fisher, of Broomfield, CO; James Rohwer, of Osceola, IN; Ryan Hayen, of Chicago, IL; Andrew Hayen (Amy Bennett), of Dixon, IL; Karly Fisher, of Highlands Ranch, CO; Matthew Rohwer, of Lakewood, CO; Kristin Hayen, of Denver, CO; Ali Hayen, of Bloomington, IL; and William Hayen, of Wayne, PA; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Janssen-Rohwer, of Osceola, IN; and Maggie and Abby Miller, of Davenport, IA. She is also survived by her lifelong friend and sister at heart, LaVern Smith, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dee and Herb lived and worked in the Rock Falls/Sterling area and were lifelong members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling. She worked at General Electric in Morrison, the Dixon Developmental Center, and the Singer Mental Health Center. Delores was an accomplished musician and played multiple instruments, most recently as a member of the Stringalongs Dulcimer Group. She was known for her energy, hospitality, intelligence, vivacious personality, sense of humor and most of all, her deep love and devotion to her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 6, 2017 from 4 – 6 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1st Avenue in Sterling. The funeral will follow on Friday July 7, 2017 at 10 AM at Messiah Ev. Lutheran Church in Sterling with the Reverend Kirk Neugebauer officiating. Burial will conclude at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church Radio Ministry and Hospice of Rock River Valley.
