Helen I. Clayton, 98 of Sterling, died Friday, April 15, 2022 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
 
Helen was born on April 5, 1924 in Rock Falls, the daughter of William and Goldie (Smith) Propheter. She married Howard Clayton on May 9, 1942 in Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2016. Helen worked for many years at Bergners in Sterling, and retired after finishing her career in the office there.
 
Survivors include, two daughters, Linda (Allen) Fischer of Mapleton, IL and Mary Ann Clayton of San Francisco, CA; one son, Thomas (Carol) Clayton of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Ethel Broderick of Sterling; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four sisters, Bernice Bright, Margary Hess, Dorothy Segall, and Hazel Tippy; and three brothers, Clemmon, Stan, and Bob Propheter.
 
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling with Pastor Bradley Wilson, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling.
