Marvin L. Deetz, 89 of Rock Falls passed away at his home surrounded by family on Sunday November 3, 2019.

Marvin was born on March 25, 1930 the son of Ernest Amil Henry and Louise Theresa (Bannick) Deetz Sr of Deer Grove, Illinois. After helping his father and brother on the family farm, Marvin was drafted into the US Marines Corps during the Korean War. On October 21, 1951 Marvin married Lois Jane Emmitt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls.

Marvin farmed land in the Tampico/Deer Grove area for many years and later started an agricultural products company, Conklin Ag, with his good friend Dean Etheridge. He had served for approximately 8 years on the Montmorency and Hahnaman Twps drainage ditch commission. After his retirement, Marvin enjoyed driving bus for Self Help Enterprises and mowing for Sterling Park District. Marvin was well known for his sense of humor and strong work ethic.

Marvin was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had served on the church council for many years. He was an avid bowler and a member of the Rock River Antique Car Club. He enjoyed restoring old cars and drove his cars in many parades.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lois; two daughters: Julie Deetz (Beth Cole) and Sue (Tom) Licocci both of Rock Falls; four grandchildren: Chad (Elizabeth) Bruns of Oregon, IL, Scott (Nicole) Bruns of Sterling, Heather Bruns of Prophetstown, Brodie Bruns (Kenzie Wegmann) of Tampico; six great grandchildren: Tessa, Harper, Pyper, Jude, Rosalean and Adaline; his maternal aunt Erma Anderson of Phoenix, AZ; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and his loving dog Maggie May.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn daughter, Sharon Kay; his brother Ernest Jr; a nephew John Deetz and a niece Ruth Bricker.

Visitation will be held on Thursday November 7, 2019 from 9 – 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow at 10:30 AM. Burial will military honors will conclude at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Arrangements by McDonald Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rock River Hospice and Home and the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
