Rockie Penaflor (Mr. Rockie) passed away on April 9th, 2018 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Peñaflor was born on August 27th,1927 in Deming, New Mexico to his parents, Felipé and Angela Peñaflor. Rockie was raised in his beloved Rocky Mountains of Claremont, Wyoming until his family moved to Sterling at age 13. He married Mary Lou Dunaven on July 14th, 1948. They were married 69 years.

The Peñaflors lived in Sterling and later Galt, where Rockie was self-employed as a treesurgeon for over 50 years. Mr. Peñaflor proudly served in the Air Force and Army as a Snow Trooper Scout post WWII and was stationed in Hawaii and Austria. Later in the Army, he achieved the role of Honor Guard. He also taught at his school of Taekwondo, Kim's Black Belt Academy, in Rock Falls, IL for over 30 years.

Rockie is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Rockie (Kate) Peñaflor, Valarie (Charles) Tanner, Angela Peñaflor, Christine Terrock, Debra Peñaflor and Fiancé James Miniel, Serita (Robert) Neal, Phillip (Anna) Peñaflor, Tracy (Oscar) Salas and Roque Jose Raul Peñaflor as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Manuel Peñaflor, and sister Alicia Estrada. He is preceded in death by his father, Felipe; his bother, Angela; sister, Dominga Manzano; brother, David C. Peñaflor; sister, Ernestine Barron; brother, Raul Peñaflor in infancy; sister, Lydia Trujillo, one grandson, one great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.

There will be a visitation from 8:30 – 10:30 AM Saturday, April 14th at McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary's Church in Sterling at 11:00 AM. Burial services will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling; Celebratory luncheon post burial. All are invited to the commemoration of his life.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
